Tattingstone Community Speed Watch

What is Community Speed Watch?

The Community Speed watch (CSW) initiative allows members of the community to address the issue of speeding in their community. Our role is to reduce speed in areas of concern, and make drivers aware that excessive speed is not acceptable. We work in partnership with the Police, with the support of the Parish Council. It is a great way of being proactive in reducing the issues of speeding.

We carry out sessions 2-3 times a week at different times of the day. We cover two sites in the village: Lemons Hill and The Heath. These sites have been identified as speeding hotspots and have been identified and risk assessed for our volunteers by Suffolk Constabulary.

Speed Indicator Device (SID)

In addition to setting up a Speed Watch group, we are fundraising in order to buy a SID for the village. This is a device that can be moved around the village and will display the speed of the car as it goes past. This type of speed reduction has had very effective results in neighbouring villages. We need to raise £3,000 in order to buy a SID and we have received very kind donations from Tattingstone Parish Council, Suffolk County Council and local residents towards this. In addition to the SID, we would like to raise funds to go towards other initiatives / equipment, to reduce speeding in the village.

Volunteers needed!

We have a great team of volunteers, but we always need more. The more volunteers we have, the more visibility we can have in the village. You can do as much or as little as you like. The role is extremely flexible, with sessions being anything from 30min to an hour and a half.
