Be a Parish Councillor

Being a Parish Councillor is a voluntary position, they receive no payment but they are entitled to receive allowances when they carry out certain "approved duties" outside of the Parish. The Council employs a Parish Clerk who has responsibility for managing the meetings, dealing with correspondence and overseeing any contracts or purchases. Jane Connell-Smith is Tattingstone's Parish  Clerk and her contact details can be found below.

If you've never been to a Parish Council meeting before, you may be forgiven for thinking that Parish Councillors are a group of people who meet now and then in a draughty village hall. Wrong! We meet in a warm, inviting village hall that’s regularly attended by people in the community seeking support and guidance on various village matters.

More information on local councils in England, the role of local councillors and what you need to do if you would like to stand as a candidate in a local parish or town council elections is available in the Booklets and Resources section on the National Association of Local Councils website.

Seeing your community change for the better, as a result of decisions you have helped make as a Parish Councillor, is something that can give you a sense of real achievement and pride. Interested? In the first instance contact:
